Hygenia Education in Schools in Rural India

This project was developed as an assignment to document a joint initiative between the Aga Khan Foundation and the Government of India aimed at improving water, sanitation and hygiene conditions in schools in rural areas in Uttar Pradesh, India.

The program focused on the installation of basic infrastructure, including wells, water pumps and toilets, alongside educational efforts to promote everyday hygiene practices such as handwashing and proper sanitation.

Particular emphasis was placed on engaging children as active participants. By introducing hygiene practices at an early age, the initiative aimed to extend its impact beyond the classroom, with children acting as a bridge for transferring knowledge to households and wider communities.
